New Moon and Current Moon Phase

It is recommended that you look for the New Moon in your area. The New Moon (beginning of the new month) determines the dates of the festivals of the first month (Aviv) and the seventh month (Tishrei). It is very important to confirm the date of the New Moon of Aviv and Tishrei, for these will influence all the dates of the Set Apart appointments legislated in Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 23. The Scriptural year begins with the first New Moon after the barley in Israel reaches the stage in its ripeness called “aviv”. The legislated appointments of Wayyiqra 23 are all calculated from the New Moons.

The new moon was sighted on 23 August 2017 from Krugersdorp.

Next New Moon

The next new moon should possibly be visible on 21 September 2017, you are encouraged to look for the new moon at your location.

If the new moon is visible on this date, then the first day of the seventh month is 22 September 2017, i.e. Yom Teru'ah, or more commonly known as the Feast of Soundings (Trumpets), followed by Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) from the evening of 30 September 2017 and Sukkot (Tabernacles) from 6 October 2017. See Wayy/Lev 23 for more details regarding the Festivals of the seventh month.
